Generation Google Scholarship for Women in Computer Science 2024 application now open


 

The Generation Google Scholarship for Women in Computer Science aims to support students pursuing computer science degrees, enabling them to excel in technology and emerge as leaders in the field. Chosen students will be granted $2,500 USD for the 2024-2025 academic year. The scholarship will be awarded based on the candidate's dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion, demonstrated leadership, and academic achievements.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as full-time second or third-year undergraduate students at an accredited university in the Asia Pacific for the 2023-2024 academic year.
  • Applicants should plan to continue their full-time Bachelor's program at an accredited university in the Asia Pacific for the 2024-2025 academic year.
  • Applicants must be studying computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • A strong academic record is essential.
  • Candidates should exemplify leadership and showcase a passion for enhancing the representation of underrepresented groups in computer science and technology.

Who Can Apply? All women identifying students interested in computer science are strongly encouraged to apply. However, previous recipients of the following scholarships are not eligible to reapply:

Application Process: Applicants will need to complete an online application, which includes:

  • General background information (e.g., contact details, details about current and intended universities)
  • Resume/CV
  • Academic transcripts from the current institution
  • Responses to short-answer essay questions

Essay Questions:

Responses to the following two short-answer essay questions should each be no more than 500 words:

  1. Describe a time when you encountered a complex problem with no clear solution. Detail the steps you took to reach a resolution. What resources and solutions did you consider? What insights did you gain from this experience? Note: This can be a problem encountered in school, work, extracurricular activities, or at home.

  2. Reflecting on your personal experience, identify a barrier hindering equitable access to the technology field. What, in your view, is the root cause of this barrier? What actions have you taken to combat this inequality, and what are your future plans? Emphasize at least half of your response on the actions you have taken. Remember, impact can manifest in various ways and at different scales.

Important Preparations Before Starting the Application:

  • PDF copy of your resume (Include leadership roles, extracurricular activities, and efforts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion)
  • PDF copy of your current or most recent transcript (Unofficial transcripts are acceptable)

Application Deadline: Tuesday, April 23, 2024, or when 1,250 eligible applications are received.
