 Tokio Marine Kagami Memorial Foundation - 2024 Scholarship for ASEAN International Students in Japan

The Tokio Marine Kagami Memorial Foundation, established in 1939, invites applications for its 2024 Scholarship aimed at promoting human resource development and academic research contributing to society. The Foundation is dedicated to fostering international exchange, particularly between Japan and ASEAN countries. The scholarship is open to privately financed international students from ASEAN countries, intending to pursue a master's or doctoral program in designated Japanese universities.

Eligibility:

  1. Privately financed international students from ASEAN countries.
  2. Enrolled (or will be enrolled) in the master's or doctoral program at a designated Japanese university.
  3. Age limit: 30 years for Master's Program, 35 years for Doctoral Program.
  4. Good health and outstanding academic performance.
  5. Actively learning Japanese with the goal of achieving N1 proficiency.

Designated Universities: University of Tokyo, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Hitotsubashi University, Tsukuba University, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Waseda University, Keio University, Sophia University, Kyoto University, Tohoku University, Osaka University, Nagoya University, Hokkaido University, and Kyushu University.

Scholarship Details:

  1. Monthly Stipend: ¥180,000 (¥2.16 million per year)
  2. Duration: Until completion of the degree requirements.
  3. Payment: Monthly transfers to the student's bank account.

Application Process: Submit the required documents via your host university, including application forms, a curriculum vitae, personal statement, recommendation from the academic supervisor, student registration certificate, transcripts, health certificate, and a copy of the passport.

Application Deadline: April 4, 2024.

Selection Process:

  • First Selection: Document screening, result notification on April 17.
  • Second Selection: Interview on April 24, result notification on April 25.
  • Recruitment Notification: After May 17.
  • Certificate Award Ceremony: May 30 in Tokyo (round-trip tickets provided for students outside Tokyo).

Obligations of Scholarship Students: Monthly meetings with Foundation personnel, mandatory attendance at Foundation events, and submission of prescribed reports every three months.

Suspension/Cancellation/Abolition of Scholarships: Subject to academic performance, behavior, or unforeseen circumstances.
