Empowering Women in STEM: British Council Scholarships at the University of Southampton
In a joint effort with the British Council, the University of Southampton proudly announces the availability of 5 fully funded scholarships tailored specifically for female students hailing from select South Asian countries. These scholarships aim to combat the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields by providing them with the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies and research in relevant disciplines.
Scholarship Details:
Coverage: The scholarship covers tuition fees, offers a monthly stipend of £1,347 for up to 12 months to cover living expenses including accommodation, covers the IELTS exam fee (for scholars without a valid Test of English), provides return economy-class travel from the home country to the UK, and includes visa, insurance, or NHS surcharge costs.
Applicants must identify as women and hold passports from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka.
A confirmed admission offer letter for one of the eligible programmes is required.
Applicants should be able to undertake full-time studies in the UK for the academic year starting from September or October 2024.
Demonstrated financial need is necessary, alongside no existing financial support or funding towards the UK study programme from other sources.
Candidates should not have previously studied at degree level or higher in the UK or lived in the UK recently.
Active engagement in the field with work experience or a proven interest is essential.
Additional Requirements:
Commitment to demonstrating future contributions to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement post-graduation.
Willingness to maintain contact with the British Council and participate in alumni activities.
Demonstrated plan and enthusiasm to engage other women and girls in STEM from the home country.
Consent for personal data sharing with the British Council.
Fulfillment of relevant English language requirements by the deadline.
Obligation to return to the country of citizenship for a minimum of 2 years after the scholarship award period.
