Every year, the Heinrich Böll Foundation awards scholarships to approximately 1500 undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students of all subjects and nationalities studying at universities, universities of applied sciences ('Fachhochschulen'), or universities of the arts ('Kunst-/Musikhochschulen').
The Heinrich Böll Foundation expect scholarship recipients to have strong academic records, to be socially and politically active, and to be passionate about the foundation's core values: ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self-determination and justice.
Please keep in mind that The Heinrich Böll Foundation only accept online applications and that written proof of German language proficiency is required (minimum requirement: "Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang" Level DSH 2 or "TestDaF" Level B2).
The scholarship is intended for exceptionally gifted students from Germany and elsewhere. Talented students who show excellent promise for future academic and professional careers are eligible for funding. Applicants from any discipline and higher education institution are eligible. Furthermore, applicants demonstrate involvement in accordance with the values of green policy.
Admission to a Master's degree programme at a German state or state-recognized institution of higher learning
EU and international students who obtained their university entrance qualifications outside of Germany and have already completed a first degree may apply for a Master's degree scholarship (completion of a Bachelor's degree and German language skills (B2 or DSH II) are required).
A detailed description of the research project, as well as a valid timetable for completion, must be included in the application for a PhD scholarship. The PhD research project's preliminary work must have been completed. At the time of application, the Master's degree certificate or equivalent must be available.
