The Education for Sustainable Energy Development (ESED) scholarship programme motivates the next generation of innovators and thinkers to work towards a more sustainable future. Our scholars are outstanding students from developing countries seeking a degree in sustainable energy development. The demand for globally oriented practitioners and researchers is increasing rapidly today. Our one-of-a-kind scholarship programme cultivates the next generation of energy, climate, and electricity sector experts who will be prepared to face future challenges.


The ESED scholarship is obtainable to any university worldwide. GSEP encourages applications from students studying at universities in developing countries.

Eligibility

The selection committee will take into account applicants who:

01. Are citizens of developing countries included on the OECD's list of recipients of development assistance.

02. Accepted into a master's programme in a field related to sustainable energy development 

Zero-carbon energy, smart grids, electric transportation, energy storage, advanced electricity technologies, public policy, economics, law, political science, and other fields are examples.

03. Are exceptional students with grades in the top 20% of their class and a track record of community service

04. Are committed to contributing to the sustainable energy development of their home country following their studies

Prior to applying for ESED Scholarship for developing countries 2023

Before you begin your application, make sure you have all of the following documents:

CV/résumé

  • Passport or birth certificate scan
  • Admission letter to the master's programme of your choice
  • Master's programme course outline (PDF or link)
  • latest university transcript
  • There are two references.

*All documents must be written in English. If the document's original language is not English, you must provide both the original and a certified translation. References

You will be required to supply two references:

One case MUST be from a current or previous university faculty member or professor who is familiar with your academic abilities. They must fill out an Academic Reference Form.

A second academic referee (same process as above) or a personal reference letter can be used for the second reference. Personal references must be in letter form, on the referee's official letterhead if possible, written in English, and dated and signed by the referee. A personal referee is someone (employer, supervisor, mentor, coach, etc.) who can discuss personal qualities or interests that qualify you for the scholarship. This referee cannot be a relative.

Both referencing must be in English. Please ensure that all references include your full name.
