 The British Council Women in STEM Scholarships programme, now in its third year, collaborates with 19 UK universities to benefit women from the Americas, South Asia, East Asia, Western Balkans, Central Asia, Brazil, Egypt, Mexico, and Turkey.

Are you a woman with a degree or a PhD in a STEM field who is enthusiastic about your work? You could be awarded a scholarship or an early academic fellowship to pursue a master's degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics programme at a leading UK university.

Eligibility Criteria for Master’s Women in STEM Scholarships Academic Year 2023-24

  • Be a woman to be eligible for the British Council Master's Women in STEM Scholarships.
  • can study in the United Kingdom for the academic year September/October 2023-2024.
  • can demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
  • have an undergraduate degree that allows them to enrol in one of the pre-selected postgraduate courses at a UK university (for Masters level) or have completed all components of a PhD within the last three years (for Early Academic Fellowships).
  • can achieve the English language proficiency required for postgraduate study/research at a UK university.
  • are working in the field or have a demonstrated interest in their subject.
  • are passionate about their course of study and are willing to engage as committed British Council scholarship alumni .
  • Have a passport and be a permanent resident of one of the countries listed below.

Both Master's Scholarships and Early Academic Fellowships are available.


India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia are among the countries represented.

Only Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, and Kosovo , North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Uzbekistan,  Turkey,  Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico, and Venezuela,  Venezuela or Peru,  Egypt, 
Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, or Thailand  are eligible for Masters Scholarships.
