Scholarship from Holland-High Potential for Maastricht University
For exceptionally gifted students from outside the European Union (EU) who have been admitted to a master's program at Maastricht University (UM), the Holland-High Potential Scholarship program offers 24 full scholarships of € 30,000 (including tuition fee waiver and monthly stipend) each academic year.
The scholarship program consists of the Holland Scholarship, which is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science in collaboration with Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences, and the High Potential Scholarship, which is funded by the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund. International students from outside the EU/EEA who want to pursue a full degree program in the Netherlands are the target audience.
Who is qualified?
The following requirements must be met by all applicants:
You meet the requirements for getting an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands and have nationality from a nation outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Surinam.
You do not possess dual citizenship with an EU/EEA countries.
For the academic year 2024–2025, you have applied for admission to Maastricht University's participating full-time master's program.
You are eligible for admission to the particular UM master's program to which you have applied.
You have never taken part in a higher education program in the Netherlands that leads to a degree. The application process is open to students who have participated in exchange programs in the Netherlands.
On September 1, 2024, you will not be older than 35.
Your most recent grade transcript or proof of academic brilliance show that you had exceptional results in your previous educational endeavors. UM will give precedence to applicants whose academic records or certified letters of academic excellence show that they are in the top 5% of 2024–2025 scholarship program applicants if many applicants are equally qualified.
Please be aware that just 2% of candidates will receive this very competitive scholarship.

The UM Holland-High Potential scholarship's duration
Please visit the website for your desired program for more information on how to register for a master's program there. After submitting your application through Studielink, you will be given a University of Michigan student ID number. To fill out and submit the scholarship application form, you must have a student number (see Step 2 below).
Please take note that the UM Holland-High Potential Scholarship is only available for the master's programs listed above.
Please be aware that in order to apply for the scholarship, you must first apply for the master's program at UM. Once you have your student ID, you can apply for the award. However, in order to receive a scholarship, you must have your application for admission to your master's program conditionally approved.
Please be aware that the UM International Services Desk does not reimburse handling fees if your study program needs them as part of the admissions process. By 1 February 2023, you are responsible for paying any handling fees that your program may impose. Please check your program's webpage under the 'Admission requirements' menu tab to see whether there are any handling fee requirements.

Please make sure that all of your documentation and referee contact information is up-to-date because you can only submit your application once. The UM International Services Desk will make sure that your complete scholarship application is taken into account for all eligible programs for which you have a conditionally accepted or approved admissions status if you have applied to numerous UM study programs.

Your CV should be current, include pertinent details about your training and employment history, and not exceed two A4 pages.

Please make use of the motivation letter template. This template will put a lot of emphasis on why you want the scholarship.
outstanding academic credentials
You might upload one of the following records to demonstrate your superior academic standing:
1. Your official university transcript, which clearly states your grade point average or class standing (for example, "first class honors") for the entirety of your study program; OR
2. A letter confirming that you are among the top 20 students in your study program's graduating year, signed by the department head or registrar of your institution. Please make sure the letter includes your head of department's or the registrar's contact information.
Financial needs declaration for an individual. Describe your personal circumstances, such as financial hardship, being a solo parent or having caregiving obligations, a medical condition, a disability, being a refugee, etc., and explain why you might benefit from receiving a scholarship.
an endorsement letter. Please send the sample scholarship reference letter guidelines to your referee so they may create a strong letter of recommendation on your behalf. Please be aware that referees cannot be family members; they must be (former) professors, lecturers, or employers.
Letters of recommendation need to be signed, dated, and not earlier than February 2023.
Contact information for one referee
Please be aware that we may get in touch with your referee to verify their legitimacy. Therefore, be careful to follow these procedures when selecting a referee and providing their contact information:
- Relationship to applicant; describe the relationship between you and your referee. Is this your employer, thesis advisor, or professor? Please keep in mind that relatives often cannot serve as referees.
- The referee's office phone number; remember to add the appropriate international dialling code.
- The referee's email address, either personal or professional. Any letters that just include a personal email address will be ignored.
