Introduction

Future leaders in developing nations have a rare opportunity to learn from Korea's development experiences and best practises through the KOICA Scholarship Program (SP), a master's degree programme created to help them advance their professional and academic careers. By doing this, KOICA seeks to aid in the socioeconomic advancement of their native nations.


The SP is aimed at government officials from KOICA's partner nations, and every year, 400 students are chosen to participate in this programme.


Scholarship benefits


Air Fare - Actual amount paid 
Tuition Fees - Full amount required by a university
Extracurricular Activities - Part of the expenses needed for study visits, workshops, Korean language classes and others, except for regular classes  
Monthly Allowance - KRW 999,000 per month

2024 KOICA Scholarship Program Guidelines

For the year 2024, KOICA intends to choose 365 fellows for 20 master's programs and 5 doctoral programs.

Application Eligibility


The following requirements must be met by potential applicants.

(1) Citizenship: You must be an inhabitant of the nation the scholarship programme is targeting.

(2) Government Nomination: Have their governments formally nominate them.
- (For master) Work for the government. Be a government employee with a minimum of 2 years' experience in the field of study (for a PhD). after completing the KOICA master's programme, with a minimum of three years of experience in the field of study

(1) Exception

1 - Candidates with a background in "international NGO" may apply for the programme with two letters of recommendation from your government office, the Korean Embassy, a well-known NGO, a group affiliated with the UN, or the KOICA Organization in your area. * Candidates with a background in "international NGO" are ONLY permitted to apply for KOICA.

(3) AGE: Be under 40 as of February 1, 2024, if possible.

(4) Health and wellbeing: Be in sound physical and mental health.
- Applicants with impairments who are in good physical and mental health are welcome to apply.
- People who have a serious disease CANNOT apply.

(5) Education Level: Have earned a bachelor's degree or the equivalent in college or university-level education. * Some programmes have particular educational requirements. Consult the program's programme information.

(6) English Proficiency: In order to enrol in classes taught exclusively in English and to be able to write academic papers and theses in English, you must have a strong command of both spoken and written English.

(7) Not have previously dropped out of the KOICA scholarship programme. You cannot apply if you are a member of the organisation where applicants submitted fake documents and abruptly left the SP programme to return to your home country.

(8) Have never taken part in a KOICA scholarship programme or any other scholarship programme run by the Korean government. * Doctorate Program applicants: holders of a KOICA master's degree scholarship are still eligible to apply.
For example, a candidate who already holds a master's degree from the KOICA SP may not apply for another master's degree from the KOICA, but may do so for a doctorate.

(9) Ideally, work for your government both throughout and after the programme (be engaged in the expertized area of your study as an official servant of your government)
