The Government of Brunei Darussalam Scholarship to Foreign Students Tenable in Brunei Darussalam is open for applications through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the academic year 2024–2025

In Brunei, the following higher education institutions offer applicants the chance to pursue courses at the diploma, undergraduate degree, and postgraduate master's degree levels:

Scholarship Benefits 

The following benefits of the scholarship will be offered to the recipient:

  1. for the duration of the programme, exemption from paying tuition fees, including acceptance, examination, registration, and orientation expenses;
  2. a round-trip economy class ticket from the scholarship recipient's country of origin or country of residence to Brunei Darussalam prior to the start of the course and a round-trip economy class ticket from Brunei Darussalam to the scholarship recipient's country of origin or country of domicile after the course is finished;
  3. a personal allowance of $500.00 BND each month;
  4. a BND$150.00 monthly meal allowance;
  5. a BND$600.00 yearly book allowance;
  6. lodging at the Polytechnic or University's residential college;
  7.  Upon completion of the programme, the scholarship recipient may ship his or her personal things back to the country of origin or residence for a fee not to exceed:
    • a transfer of $25.00 BND to an ASEAN nation;
    •  $500.00 BND is sent to a nation outside the ASEAN region;
  8. complete insurance coverage throughout the whole Scholarship period. The scholarship applicant is strongly advised to purchase supplementary insurance on his own dime before departing for Brunei Darussalam and for the term of the award.

    Eligibility Criteria 

      Applications that are not eligible will be refused. Before applying, make sure you fulfill the following requirements for eligibility:
        Candidates must:
          • On July 1 of the year the course or programme starts, the student must be older than 25 for undergraduate and diploma programmes and 35 for postgraduate master's degree programmes.
            • Have a Credit 6 in the GCE "O" Level Examination, a Grade "C" in IGCSE English (as a Second Language), an IELTS score of 6.0, or a TOEFL minimum score of 550 to be considered proficient in English.

              APPLICATION PROCESS 

                NOTE: The Scholarship is primarily designed for foreign students who are beginning their studies in Brunei Darussalam. Not eligible are Bruneians, Brunei Permanent Residents, or foreign students currently enrolled in or who have previously attended Brunei higher institutions.

                1. The deadline for scholarship applications is February 15, 2024

                ​2. The universities offering the programmes may need applicants to complete a written test to determine their competency in the English, Malay, or Arabic languages, as well as to present for an interview at the location(s) specified by the institution(s) (where applicable).
                3. The Brunei Darussalam government reserves the authority to reject any applications. The choice about the candidates is final. The judgement reached will not be the subject of any debate or inquiries.
                ​4. The following documents must be uploaded to the BDGS application form:
                - A current passport-size photo.
                - True copies of academic credentials and other supporting documentation that have been certified (i.e. certificates, testimonials, transcripts).
